Aquilea: the Roman township
 

The strategic position of Aquilea defined its history. Beginning as a Roman colony in 181 BC it later became a military outpost under Roman rule.

The wealth of the town of Aquilea has always been linked to the trade that travelled through the city by way of a well planned road network.

The remains of the city are well preserved and are a  favourite destination for cultural excursions.
